2021 has been designated as the International Year of Health and Care Workers (YHCW) in appreciation and gratitude for their unwavering dedication in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic
To celebrate 2021 as being recognised as The Year of the Health and Care worker, each month, we will be featuring a different employee in our Employee Spotlight series. This series was born with the belief that your life experiences make you the unique person you are today and influence what you bring to the amazing culture here at Shellharbour Private. We have chosen to feature those incredible individuals with a blog post dedicated to them.
This month, we welcome you to our Specialist Centre Coordinator-Christine Cruickshank.
How long have you worked for Shellharbour Private?
I have worked at Shellharbour Private Hospital for 8 years.
What is your current role?
My current role is Shellharbour Specialist Centre Coordinator
Why did you choose to become a Health or Care Worker?
I wanted to utilise my communication and organization skills, whilst providing a contribution to a patient’s journey back to optimal health.
Have you had any other roles with HCA previously?
My previous roles at the company have been Managing Shellharbour Private Hospital Kitchen, training new staff members in House Keeping and clerical duties in the Specialist Centre.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Communicating with patients on a professional level which defuses their anxiety and makes them feel welcome and comfortable.
How does your role contribute to positive patient experiences and/or outcomes?
I’d like to think that by facilitating efficient scheduling and work-flow, I can help ease some of the burden patients may experience before a healthcare appointment.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received and would like to pass on to your colleagues?
Either you run the day, or the day runs you!
Provide us a highlight in your career that you would like to share .
Progressing my career to becoming the coordinator of the Specialist Centre. I was also a lead contributor in the establishment of the new Shellharbour respiratory and sleep clinic.
